CAPTAIN OF THE FLOOR ASSASSINS
BBoy BIZZO breaks down the inner workings of his crew and their plans to represent at EUROBATTLE PORTUGAL
- How long has Floor Assassins been around?
We have been around for about 5 years now officially pushing the true meaning of the word and culture “b-boy”
- Who are the current crew members?
Currently we are a 6 man crew being represented by Craig, Wooda ,Kayzo ,Kombat ,Myself and our newest member Bboy FarrenHeight
- What do you all do when you are not dancing?
Most of us are students full time with the exception of Kombat and Wooda, whom either work or are full time dancing. So for the most part the majority’s day to day lives consist of campus or lectures and then practice till you can’t stand anymore. If we know we have a big show or battle coming up then its all about being inovative and redefining ourselves so that entails more practice and less time for much else.
- What accolades/awards/achievments do you have to your collective name (anything worth mentioning, collaborations with other artists, international appearances, battles etc.etc.)?
This one is a tough one because we acknowledege most of our awards or achievements as something worth mentioning because of the various effort that was put into them I’m gonna start with the first big one for us which was the 2005 Bling Free All Elements Jam. That was our first real battle since we started and in victory our first taste of being “kings of the hill’ as it were. Since then its been a rollercoster of competitions and shows, like opening for the Snoop Dogg concert, promotional work for corporate companies, theatre work and working with international artists and choreographers on various pieces that highlight festivals locally and abroad, including Durbans prestigious “Jomba” festival and Reunion Island’s “Danse et Docks” festival. Also with affiliations to local Dance companies we perform as well as give classes which is a huge accomplishment for us and we count it an honor to help educate and guide the next generations of Durban Bboys/Bgirls. Aside from the commercial aspects lets talk BATTLE the rawest element of this art! Currently Floor Assassins are the undisputed champs of the 031 with five years of Durban battle championships under our belt both as a group and individually. We have members who travel between Durban, Joburg and Cape Town battling and representing our city to the fullest. We have members with records of six years being undefeated in a ‘one on one’ battle on Durban soil as well as having the Life Check All Elements Battle of the Year title under our belt for…well since it started! We have had members perform and battle in Paris, Reunion Island, Mozambique, Lesotho and New Zealand. I would say that our biggest achievement is the fact that each member has the ability to be one of the best the game has ever seen and that fact strengthens us when we compete as Assassins.

- Tell us, from your own perspective what this battle means to you?
This battle is a milestone thats has been a long time coming. All the work put in from back in the day practicing on a cardboard box or the grass to now being asked to represent my country in one of the biggest bboy battles the world has to offer, it is truely an honor and a privilege. The fact that Kayzo and I were selected as part of the South African team to compete is probably the most influencial part of our recent training. We know the calibre of dancers that await us on the floor when we get there and so we are determined to not let our country down.
- What is it about breakdancing that has you so passionate about it?
I still don’t believe there are words to answer this question accurately! For me its very much like breathing, its hard to imagine my life without this dance. When i’m on the floor at practice or at an event or battle it’s the one time that i am completely honest with myself, because its impossible for you to lie -its so real that its impossible for me to lie while I dance , I know its a pretty vague explanation but how do you explain your reason for reason you know? It’s my world and the music is the lifeforce pulsing through it.
