Spoken Word is an established element of contemporary Hip Hop culture, and Hip Hop has played a large role in the promotion of Poetry world wide. There can be no denying the connection on many levels between the two. With this in mind it must be noticed that Durban is home to one of the worlds finest and most established Poetry festivals, and celebrates its relationship with Hip Hop for the 13th time this year.

Real Durban Hip Hop has always been about consistency, about sticking to the path whatever the direction it follows and learning to make choices when confronted with questionable circumstances. This is the reason some cats fall off, the reason some cats jump in and out of the game real quick when they discover how cold it can be. This is when stamina plays a vital role in any young artists’ career.
