Spoken Word is an established element of contemporary Hip Hop culture, and Hip Hop has played a large role in the promotion of Poetry world wide. There can be no denying the connection on many levels between the two. With this in mind it must be noticed that Durban is home to one of the worlds finest and most established Poetry festivals, and celebrates its relationship with Hip Hop for the 13th time this year.

“We are influenced by our guardians to learn how to speak.” So says Durban-by-default Hip Hop hustler MARAZA. It goes far beyond the Open Mic for this cat. His life is one big blend of influence and ambition. If there was ever a reason to be proud of the 031, here he is.
